Last month, Google put out their wearables SDK, it’s actually named Android Wear, and they also put out a list of manufacturers who were partnering with them to create Android Wear devices. Shortly after Google’s announcement, LG and Motorola announced their smart watches running on Android Wear. While Motorola’s Moto 360 is probably the more interesting one, simply because its a circle, the LG G Watch is still a pretty cool smart watch. And more than likely it’ll be compatible with any Android device running Android 4.3 and up – I say Android 4.3 because that’s where Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy comes in. It appears that Pocket-Lint has now confirmed that the LG G Watch is heading to the UK this summer and will go on sale for £180. Which we heard it would be available in Q2, so the timing is just about right. But as far as the pricing goes, I think it’s a bit more than most of us were hoping it’d be. Just to compare, £180 is about $300 USD. So about the price of the Gear 2, which we all thought was overpriced. So we’ll have to see how LG prices it in the US.
We basically know nothing about the LG G Watch in particular, but we do know a lot about Android Wear. Which looks pretty damn awesome. It basically uses a Google Now-like UI and shows you information using cards. The interface – from what we’ve seen in videos and such – looks really clean and nice. Before Android Wear, I wasn’t all that interested in the smart watch craze, but now I am. And I’m excited to see all these smart watches from our favorite manufacturers. As just about everyone is working on a Smartwatch with Android Wear except for Sony. They say that they are sticking to their own software for the Smartwatch 2, and 3. Which might be a mistake, but we’ll see soon enough.
