In the world of business, the earnings call is a great opportunity for investors and analysts to weigh up how well a company has been doing and while they can obviously be pretty boring affairs, every so often there’s a little gold inside these reports. The big news surrounding LG is of course, the upcoming launch of the G3, the follow-up to last year’s fairly successful G2. We’ve been hearing quite a lot about the unannounced device, but we’ve yet to hear something from LG themselves. That is, until now. Hidden in their own report of their Q1 2014 earnings is a hint of what’s to come.
It’s written as plain as day that the G2 is to launch in Q2 of this year with the phrase “higher revenues are expected in the second quarter with the release of the flagship LG G3 smartphone.” That wasn’t so hard now, was it LG? Far from an actual release date or anything like that, it does give us an idea of the time window in which LG is to launch their next flagship. It’s a shame that LG didn’t let anything else out of the bag, but earnings calls aren’t exactly the right place for product announcements. ‘Q2’ gives us April, May and June to work with and considering the launch of last year’s G2, we’d say a June launch is pretty likely.
No matter what, the G3 is shaping up to be one hell of a device, and if the rumor mill has its facts right this year, screen lovers and spec lovers alike should be in for a real treat come the second quarter. According to rumors, the G3 is to carry a 2560 x 1440 display, a Snapdragon 805 CPU and similar design aesthetics to the G2 from last year. Are you looking forward to the G3?
