When Motorola took to the stage in Brasil last Fall to announce the Moto G, they launched a device that made very few compromises, and yet was still a very affordable device. Cut from the same cloth as the Moto X, the Moto G was – and still is – an absolute steal at just $199 unlocked, but it looks like Motorola has some bigger plans for the Moto G yet. We’ve already seen a slightly different edition of the Moto G launch in Latin America, under the “Forte” name, but now it looks like we could be seeing some changes to the hardware side of things for real this time.
According to Mexican website Xataka, there will be an LTE version of the Moto G as well as a Ferrari edition. A leaked image of the two new logos pretty much confirms that the Ferrari side of things does in fact have all to do with the famous car maker from Italy. This wouldn’t be the first Ferrari branded smartphone that Motorola has produced, but considering that their last one was running Android 2.1, a Ferrari Motorola this time around might live up to its name somewhat. As for the LTE side of things, it’s said to cost $260 in Mexico and feature the same internal hardware, except for the inclusion of 4G, of course. There’s talk of the Moto G LTE coming with a flip case as well.
You might be wondering why make an LTE version of the device now, after the device has been on shelves for months. Well, the omission of 4G was mostly made due to cost and the fact that LTE in Europe and emerging markets (the targets for the Moto G) isn’t anywhere near as widespread as it is here in the US. However, in Latin America, there are now a number of LTE providers, including two in Mexico as well as a handful across Brasil and Columbia. Launching an LTE version there, for a similar price would be a good idea for Motorola, and it means they could offer the same sort of great value for those looking for extra wireless speeds, without too much extra cost.
