We already knew that this years Motorola devices were made while they were under Google’s ownership, even though they announced that Lenovo had purchased the OEM earlier this year. But one thing to remember with OEMs is that their pipeline is pretty long. They are likely working on devices for next year right now. But back to the XT912A. This device showed up in benchmarks and appears to be confirming a 5.2-inch 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 2MP front-facing camera and a 12MP rear-facing camera, along with Android 4.4.2 Kitkat. Which is definitely an upgrade from last years’ DROID line up and the Moto X. Although the processor is still a bit behind since we have the Snapdragon 801 now and by the time this device is announced, it’ll probably be the Snapdragon 805.
You might be thinking that the model XT912A sounds familiar. Well if you had the original DROID Razr, then you probably knew that it had the model number of XT912. So it sounds like this is a new Razr device, even though they dropped that name last year and only went with Droid Ultra, Maxx and Mini. But who knows right now. We had also heard that last year was the end of the DROID line. So perhaps this Motorola device is heading to all carriers? Would be nice, definitely.
With it sporting a 5.2-inch display, we’re finally going to see something close to a phablet from Motorola. It still doesn’t technically fall into that category, but it is bigger than the Moto X and the 2013 DROID line up for Verizon. It’ll likely be an AMOLED display as well, so that Active Display will still work without using a lot of battery. This is something we’ll have to keep our eye on, as it’s really interesting. And we’ve been hearing rumors about this device – if it’s the same one – for quite a few months now.
