Nest Learning Thermostat Now Available on Google Play for $249

Google recently bought Nest for about $3.2 billion, basically to replace Motorola as Google’s in-house Hardware partner. Nest has made a smart thermostat and smoke detector. The thermostat is now available on Google Play. Which we heard yesterday that it might be heading to Google Play pretty soon. The Nest Learning Thermostat is available for $249 and is shipping in 1-2 business days. So if you order it today you should have it by the end of the week. Which is great to see.

“The Nest Learning Thermostat programs itself and automatically helps save energy when you’re away. And you can control it from anywhere using your smartphone. ”

The thermostat does allow you to control it from your smartphone no matter where you are. Maybe you are on vacation and forgot to turn off the heat or air conditioning before leaving. Just pick up your phone, open the app and you can fix that just that easy. It’s pretty cool actually. It is $249, and does have a color display, which is cool. It also uses WiFi, so it’s the first step in having a connected house. Google says that you can install your Nest Learning Thermostat in 30 minutes or less. It’s about as easy as installing a light fixture, which really isn’t that hard to do in all actuality.

It’s interesting to see Nest on Google Play, well sort of. It’s not really surprising to see it there since Google does own Nest now, but it’s the first item on Google Play that doesn’t use Android or Chrome OS. Typically we get Nexus, Google Play Edition and Chrome OS devices on Google Play, not a thermostat, that doesn’t really run an operating system at all. How many of you are going to pick up a Nest Learning Thermostat? Let us know in the comments below.
