Wireless charging is one feature on mobile devices, which usually causes peoples’ opinions to be highly polarized. Call Wireless Charging a mere passing fad or call it the best thing to happen to mobile devices recently, one cannot simply ignore the fact that wireless charging is definitely here to stay. The Samsung Galaxy S5 was the most anticipated device of the year, however once it was officially unveiled, it left most people disappointed. One chunk of such people were disappointed because of the lack of wireless charging capabilities built-in into the device.
Samsung seems to have remedied that aspect to some extent. Samsung has just announced the availability of covers for the Samsung Galaxy S5, which would bring in wireless charging capabilities to the flagship smartphone. Samsung has provided a choice of four covers with built-in Qi wireless charging modules. However the color options are currently restricted to just black and white. So we have two ‘back plates’ (in black and white options) which maintain the dotted look of the original back cover and we also have S-View covers (again in the Zebra color options) which also has the Qi wireless charging module built-in it. All four of these covers have the gasket included in their designs which makes the Samsung Galaxy S5 waterproof. Since the covers rely on the Qi wireless charging technology, we would assume them to work flawlessly with any Qi wireless charger, including Samsung’s own models, however we cannot comment on the compatibility aspects as of now. The ‘standard’ back wireless charging cover is going to set you back by $30, however no pricing details for the S-View covers have been released so far.
The world is still waiting for the retail availability of Samsung’s latest flagship device, which has not met the hype and expectations of the Android user community. While some people definitely are all praise, most felt lack of any real innovation as a major let down. Apparently Samsung is taking these concerns seriously and is trying to please the masses with the launch of such utility based accessories. Whether or not this strategy works, only time will tell. In the meantime, have a look at the covers in the gallery below.
