The Galaxy S5 Prime is generating quite a bit of buzz right now and while there’s still no concrete evidence to suggest the device exists, it’s becoming more and more likely that Samsung has plans to make early Galaxy S5 buyers very jealous. Despite the fact the Galaxy S5 is an excellent device – as we found out in our review – it looks like Samsung is getting ready to launch an even better version of the device with a more powerful processor and a dizzying screen resolution of 260 x 1440. According to Korean press, we could see the Galaxy S5 Prime as soon as June this year.
Project KQ as the device has become known is said to feature an Exynos 5430 CPU, which is an octa-core CPU with four Cortex A15 CPUs and four Cortex A8 CPUs for power efficiency. According to rumor, the device is also to ship with an Intel LTE modem and could even feature a metallic, premium build. While a drastic change in build materials isn’t all that likely, the inclusion of a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display at 2560 x 1440 seems more than likely at this point.
Hinted as a device to compete with LG’s G3, which is shaping up to be some device itself, Asia Today is reporting that Samsung has been working on the device for some time now and that it could be ready to launch this summer. Competing with LG might not be something Samsung needs to do here in the West, but if their arch-rival is working on something this good, then Samsung will have something to worry about in their home market of South Korea. After all, LG is a popular brand over there, and we can’t imagine Samsung happy to leave LG to launch a much better device than their Galaxy S5. With a few months left to wait, we’re excited to see what the G3 will have to offer, and if the Galaxy S5 Prime does arrive this summer, the device market will become very interesting indeed.
