Samsung has been pushing the boundaries of what wearable devices can do, as evidenced by their refresh of the original Samsung Galaxy Gear as well as the introduction of the Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit wearable devices. For those who were waiting to get their hands on these wearables, we have some good news. Amazon has listed the Samsung Gear Fit Fitness Tracker and the Samsung Gear 2 Neo Smartwatch as “In Stock” and is retailing both these devices for $199 and throws in ‘Free Shipping’ as an extra. The Samsung Gear 2 Neo is readily available for shipping, however those who are waiting for the Samsung Gear Fit, will have to have a little more patience, as the device will need an extra 1-2 days to process and ship.
For the uninitiated, the Samsung Gear Fit is an always-on activity tracker which is also capable of being a personalized fitness motivator, which actively provides real-time coaching. The Gear Fit bears a curved Super AMOLED display, a heart rate sensor and is dust and water resistant. The wearable is also capable of connecting with a host of Samsung smartphones and can be used to reject calls, respond to SMS, control alarms and receive emails, SMS and call notifications. The Gear Fit is designed basically as a fitness tracker first, as a result it lacks the camera and related functions we saw in the original Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch. The Samsung Gear 2 Neo is a Smartwatch first, which once connected to your Samsung smartphone gives the wearer the freedom to make and receive calls, receive smartphone notifications and basically do everything you can do on the Gear Fit – including personalized real-time fitness coaching and motivation as well as heart-rate monitoring functions. The additional advantage of the Samsung Gear 2 Neo is the standalone music player on the device. The Samsung Gear 2 Neo can be hooked up to a pair of Bluetooth speakers or a headsets to enjoy the device as a standalone music player. Both these devices run Samsung’s Tizen operating system.
Though Samsung is pushing hard to get its devices accepted in the niche market which is cropping up for these wearable devices, their utility and need is still circumspect. However, if you’re one of the early adopters, hit up these links for the Samsung Gear Fit and Samsung Gear 2 Neo to place your orders and do tell us how your experience with them is. We always love to hear from you.
