Last year, when Samsung launched the Galaxy S4, they soon followed it up with variants of the device catering to specific needs of users. We saw the Galaxy S4 Active and the Galaxy S4 Zoom (along with an inevitable “Mini” variety) launch not too long after the Galaxy S4 did. We reviewed both the Galaxy S4 Active and S4 Zoom, and definitely found the S4 Zoom to be the more bizarre of the two, pairing a digital camera with an Android smartphone. Now, Samsung Mobile is inviting people to an event on April 29th in Singapore, asking them to “Kapture the Event”. So, does this mean that the Galaxy S5 Zoom is to be unveiled, and that it’s to be called the Galaxy K? Well, there’s a strong possibility.
According to PhoneArena, the device is going to be packing a 4.8-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, a hexa-core Exynos CPU (like the one found in the Galaxy Note 3 Neo), 2GB of RAM and Android 4.4.2 installed out-of-the-box. The all important imaging side of things is said to be powered by a 20-megapixel sensor around back with a 10x optical zoom and Xenon flash, with a 2-megapixel shooter around the front. Right now however, these specs could just be conjecture. Going with a hexa-core Exynos could be a good way for Samsung to deliver good performance, but it’ll need to be a considerable upgrade over the Galaxy S4 Zoom for people to take notice.
The event is roughly a fortnight away, so there’s not much longer to wait and whatever it is we’re sure Samsung have something interesting in store for us at least. Last year, we saw Samsung break the Galaxy S4 apart to offer different types of users experience that better suited them specifically, we see no reason why Samsung wouldn’t do the same this year, and with the Galaxy S5 now available, it’s time to see what else Samsung has been working on. We’ve been hearing about different Galaxy branding like the K and the F brands for some time now, and maybe Samsung starts by asking us to “Kapture the Moment” in Singapore shortly.
