Sony Tells Us Why it's a Good Idea to Have a Waterproof Phone

As a UK resident, I can certainly tell you that it does actually rain quite a lot here however, where I’m located I’ve had some pretty good weather as of late. Living in such a rainy country that has problems with flooding quite often, you’d think that more of our smartphones would be waterproof, but it’s still just Sony and Samsung that have waterproof devices on offer for the British public. Sony has taken to their Blog to highlight some of the reasons why a waterproof phone is a great idea for those living in the UK using statistics and a very rainy infographic.

According to Sony’s findings, it rains 123 days of the year in London and that every year 250,000 people search Google for info on what to do if their smartphone or tablet has gotten wet. This is something I can certainly believe, how many times has one of your kids spilled juice on a device on the table or a friend (heaven forbid) thrown beer all over your beloved Android phone. It’s happened to me once or twice, and while I moved quick enough to make sure my Nexus 5 wasn’t damaged, it’d be nice not to have to worry about my phone as much.

Of course, Sony’s tablets and smartphones aren’t just waterproof, they’re also dustproof, which is why Sony reminds us of the Burning Man music festival in Black Rock, which is so dry that goers bring their own water. With all that dust flying around, it’s a good job that the Xperia Z line of devices are dustproof as well as waterproof. The whole infographic can be found below and it’s an interesting quick read. I have to say that I too, am guilty of using y device in the bathroom, which lumps me in with 75% of the UK public apparently, so at least I am not alone!
