Worldwide Android News 04/20/14 – UK Chromecast Offer, Meizu MX3, LG isai FL and More!

Meizu MX3 and MX2 Getting Android KitKat in Updates Later This Month

Despite the fact that Meizu themselves would like you to believe Flyme OS is what powered the MX3 and MX2, their devices run on Android much like anyone else’s. Well, the premium Chinese devices are about to get a decent upgrade under the hood in the form of Android 4.4 KitKat. Apparently, the update is to hit these devices on or around April 28th, so there’s not too much longer to wait, but who knows if this is the absolute final date.

MIUI is Now Runs on Roughly 200 Devices

Xiaomi might becoming known for their affordable yet satisfying devices in China, but for those outside of Asia, it’s MIUI we know the company for. While Xiaomi themselves deliver official methods to get hold of MIUI on your device, a lot of users are running an unofficial port, put together by the community to enable us to run MIUI on whatever device we like pretty much. The list of devices that can now run MIUI is at 198 according to news that came out earlier this week. If you’ve yet to try out MIUI and you’d like to, then you can take a look at the list of supported devices here.

LG’s isai FL to Hit KDDI Au in Japan, Feature Barely any Bezel at All

We’ve come to know LG for creating devices with extremely thin bezels over the years, but it looks like 2014 is going to be their slimmest year yet when it comes to bezels. Earlier in the week, the LG isai FL leaked out and is heading to Japan’s KDDI au network and will be featuring some very nice specs, indeed. With a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 display, a Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.5 Ghz, 3GB of RAM and a massive 3,000 mAh battery, it looks like this is going to be how the G3 turns out later this year. With no official date for when it hits the Japanese network, we should be looking for it a little later on this year.

HiSense Sero 8 Goes up For Pre-Order in the UK for Just £90

HiSense turned a few heads when they released a Nexus 7- like device a couple of years ago and now, they’re back with the Sero 8. Up for Pre-Order in the UK for just £90, you’d think this is something to write off straight away. But with a 1920 x 1200 display, a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera, a VGA front-facing camera, 4,000 mAh battery there’s more to this than meets the eye. Compromises are made throughout however, and they culminate in the RockChip CPU, specifically the RK3188T quad-core clocked at 1.6 Ghz. Sadly, this CPU makes the Sero 8 no more than an everyday machine for browsing the web and that sort of thing. Still, for £90 you could do a lot worse.

UK Chromecast Getting £5 Play Store Credit

Those that have just picked up a Chromecast in the UK, will be pleased to know that they’re eligible for £5 free Play Store credit, which will get you at least one rental from the Movies store, or TV shows or more. The £4.99 credit is available until July 15th, and you can redeem it by heading here. It seems that the offer also applies to those that have already bought a Chromecast, as I purchased mine before this offer went live, and it still worked. Also, if you purchased a US version of the Chromecast, then you’re out of luck, which is hardly surprising, but still a little disappointing.

Lava Iris 504Q+ with 10-megapixel Sony Camera Launches for RS 13,990

Lava have been known to create some decent devices in India and now they’re back with the Iris 504Q+ which features a 5-inch 720p display, a 1.3 Ghz quad-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and more. The headlining feature here of course, is the 10-megapixel Sony Exmor sensor used in the 504Q+, which should allow this latest Iris to take some excellent photos at this price of just RS 13,990. Unfortunately, the device is still running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, but that shouldn’t be a complete deal breaker for a lot of you.
