Just a few weeks ago, Amazon launched Single Sign-On for the Kindle Fire line of tablets. Today, they’ve expanded it to all Android smartphones and tablets. So those that do not own a Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD, or a Kindle Fire HDX, can still use their single sign-on. The Amazon app on Google Play has been updated to allow single sign-on, Simply sign into your Amazon app, and you’ll be automatically signed into all your other Amazon services. It works a bit like Facebook’s single sign-on. For example, if you have both the Facebook app and the Facebook Messenger app installed. Sign into the Facebook app first and when you open up Messenger it’ll automatically sign you in as well. Which I really liked that feature. And now that Amazon has it, I’ll probably love it with their services as well. Now just bring Amazon Instant Video to Android and we’ll be all set. I still don’t get why it’s “exclusive” to the Kindle Fire devices, and Fire TV.
Amazon’s Single Sign-on only works with Amazon’s own apps, and also on devices running Android 2.3 and up. So you’ll need to be sure you are running Gingerbread or higher. Amazon has also redesigned it’s icon, so it now fits into the modern look of Android now, and got rid of that 3D-ish gradient icon that it had for so long. Although the Amazon app for tablets has not yet been updated, I’m sure it will be within the next few hours or so, so you can keep checking in with that app to see if it’s been updated yet.
How many of you have several Amazon apps installed on your devices? Are you going to be using Amazon’s Single sign-on now? Or could you care less about it? Let us know in the comments down below.
