Android OTA: Device Updates & Firmware Report – May 16th Edition

Galaxy S5 SM-G900F Gets Small Update in Europe

Over the sea in Europe, the Galaxy S5 has been given a minor update, with a build number ending NE2. Depending on your network, you might have to use Kies to get this update onto your phone. It’s a small update and should improve performance in the camera, gallery and voice recorder apps but other than that there’s little to write home about. The baseband seems to have been updated here as well.

Sense 6 Rolling Out to HTC One M7 Devices in Canada

Canadian M7 users should have received the update to Sense 6.0 a little earlier on in the week. Coming in at over 650MB with a build number of 5.11.661.8, this update brings a lot of software improvements from the M8 down to the slightly older device. BlinkFeed, the camera interface and other key parts of the Sense experience will have been updated and refined. Extreme Power Saving mode has also made it down to the M7, which should drastically extend the battery life of your device by offering a basic experience.

Atrix HD on AT&T Gets Small Maintenance Update, Sticks With Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

The Atrix HD was launched quite some time ago on AT&T, around two years ago, so it’s no surprise to see that its still running such an old version of Android. However, it is bizarre to see it still on the list of devices slated to get Android 4.4 KitKat, making it the last device to get the update. Still, a security update like this is better than absolutely nothing we suppose. Your device might already have been updated but once done you’ll be left on software version 98.5.38.MB886.ATT.en.US.

AT&T’s HTC One (M8) Gets Extreme Power Saving Mode and Google Drive Fix

We covered this one a little earlier in the week, as the Drive space redeem issue has been fixed on the HTC One for AT&T, but it looks like the same update also bought along the Extreme Power Saving Mode. We’re not sure why the One on so many carriers didn’t get this feature at launch, but it’s good that it’s coming now, at least. The software version you’re looking for now is 1.58.502.1.

Leaked Roadmap Suggests Android 4.4 Heading to Sony’s Xperia SP

The Xperia SP was once said to be unable to run Android 4.4 and that the device would stay on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. However, now a leaked piece of material from Sony, says the device is to get Android 4.4.2 during a June – July timeframe later this year. Let’s hope this turns out to be true, as the SP is a decent device and one that can certainly handle KitKat.
