Introduction
Here we have the battle between two China manufacturers – ZTE has been around since 1985 and is the world’s fourth-largest mobile phone manufacturer and OnePlus is a brand new upstart company with its first smartphone, the OnePlus One. How does David compare to Goliath in this phone comparison? Goliath is a good term to use for the HUGE ZTE Nubia X6 with its 6.44-inch display, just a half-inch shy of a 7-inch tablet – we pair this up to the new OnePlus One’s 5.5-inch display.
Outside of the identical processor (128GB model), same 13MP for the main camera, same 3GB (128GB model), a 64GB option and no microSD cards, these are totally different devices – and designed only for someone who wants a large display and doesn’t mind doing their ‘smartphoning’ with two hands. The price of the OnePlus One wins, hands down, however, for the features you get on the ZTE Nubia X6, you simply cannot dismiss this device on price alone – which is cheap based on what you are receiving for your money. Take a look at the detailed specifications and then read up on each individual device and then we will pick a winner of this comparison.
Specifications
OnePlus One
The OnePlus One is about to make its debut later this month and most of us cannot wait to get our hands on ‘one’ to put it through its paces. This new device from China’s upstart company, OnePlus, is offering flagship specifications with a less than Google Nexus 5’s pricing. Although the One’s display is smaller (6.44-inches vs 5.5-inches), it is the same Full HD display of 1080p resolution, and because of its smaller size, its has 401 Pixel-Per-Inch (PPI) rather than the 342 PPI of the Nubia X6. The processors are identical if comparing the 128GB X6, although even the 32GB and 64GB versions are just slightly different. The camera setup differs slightly – both have a 13MP main camera with dual LED flash, but the One ‘only’ has a 5MP FFC that is large by any other comparison except the X6, which has another 13MP for video chatting and what has to be the best selfie ever! The One offers the usual microUSB 2.0 port compared to the newest 3.0 microUSB port on the X6. The One has Android’s newest Android 4.4 KitKat as a basis for CyanogenMod UI which is familiar to most Android geeks. The 3100mAh battery is large by most standards, but small in comparison to the X6’s 4250mAh battery. When it comes to price, you just cannot beat the One – with better specs and yet cheaper than the Nexus 5. It should be available at the end of May and can be used on AT&T and T-Mobile networks.
ZTE Nubia X6
Now we come to the Phablet of all Phablets, the ZTE Nubia X6 that not only provides a huge 6.44-inch display, but also flagship specs as well. The X6 was just launched at the end of March in Beijing with its huge display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, dual-SIM support as well as LTE connectivity. The thin metal construction makes for a compact 7.9mm thin body. The X6 matches the 3GB of RAM that the One comes with and for internal storage you get a choice of 32GB, 64GB or a whopping 128GB. The main 13MP camera has OIS and all of the bells of the One – but it also has a 13MP non-OIS front-facing camera (FFC) with five lens as well…for what can only be described as some fantastic selfies and crystal-clear video chats. The X6 also incorporates the microUSB 3.0 port for faster charging and data transfer. It has a killer 4250mAh battery, but then with a 6.44-inch Full HD display, it will need that much juice. The X6 also uses the new Nubia UI 2.0 so it will be exciting to see this revamped ZTE interface on top of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean…from what we have heard so far. Keep your fingers crossed that ZTE will let this device out of China and into our hands. You can purchase the ZTE Nubia X6 at 1949deal.com for as low as $269.99 .
…and the Winner is…
Summary
We had to pick the ZTE Nubia X6 beast of a phone, simply because of its uniqueness – the size may certainly put off some users, but the rest of the specifications, also competitive or beyond the OnePlus One, especially if you are comparing the 128GB internal storage version. They use the same type of LCD display and the same Full HD resolution (1920x1080p), processors are the same, the 3GB of RAM are the same, then you have a 13MP front-facing camera, IR Blaster, microUSB 3.0, both offer dual speakers, and the Nubia X6 offers a monstrous 4250mAh battery – what is not to like. Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know what you think about these two new devices…as always, we appreciate your comments.
