Chrome OS just became more enticing to film buffs. If you have been enjoying movies and TV shows from Google Play Movies for some time, then you already know some of the great stuff that you can find from some of the latest movies to sometimes early release films before they hit theaters, and plenty of your favorite TV shows like Breaking Bad and Game Of Thrones. Sometimes you don’t always have a connection though and you’d still like to watch something. Just announced today at the Google/Intel live stream, Google Play Movies in Offline Mode will be coming to Chrome OS. You heard that right, Chrome OS devices will soon be able to watch movies while offline. Google has a good number of their services built with offline mode features, but Google Play Movies offline for Chrome OS devices is a great addition and can only seek to make Chromebooks more popular, and not just Chromebooks, but all Chrome OS devices.
Chrome OS is definitely more powerful with an internet connection available, but this move to bring a Movie and TV experience to users of the platform while offline is a great improvement, and does well to show that Chrome OS can be more than just a platform built around the Chrome browser and Google core web apps like Gmail, Docs, and more. While Intel speakers during the event were quiet about the timeframe of when we can expect to see this feature, hopefully it won’t be too far off and those who already use Chrome OS devices will see this sooner than later.
We could imagine that Google might plan to unveil more about this feature at Google I/O if it isn’t made available before hand. So far we have no other details about the Google Play Movies offline mode for Chrome OS, and the Live stream has just ended without giving further details. As more information pops up about when offline mode for Play Movies reaches users, we’ll be sure to update you. For now it looks like you’ll have to keep connected while you watch that last episode of The Walking Dead.
