Cyanogenmod Releases CM 11 M6, Aims For Bi-Weekly "M" Build Updates

If you’re a user of CM and a frequent ROM flasher, particularly someone that flashes the latest builds through nightlies, you may end up getting from M build to M build a lot quicker now, which might make some of you pretty happy. Today Cyanogenmod has just released the latest version of the Cyanogenmod 11 ROM, CM11 M6, and with it comes along plenty of changes as usual. Not changes just to the ROM itself though, but also some changes with how the team at Cyanogen will be handling the releases of ROMs as well as how they’ll be referring to them. From now on, Cyanogen has stated that “M” release builds of the latest ROMs will be replacing stable builds, and in a way the RC builds as well. It can also be considered that the M builds aren’t really replacing those two different sets of builds, but rather there is just no more need for the RC and stable builds to be present.

The official word for CM is that with stable builds, people were commonly getting the idea that there were going to be no bugs whatsoever, and that stable releases would be including all features that needed to be part of the build. This was not only misleading to anyone using a CM ROM, but was more of a headache for anyone who would only be relying on stable builds which could sometimes be months apart. By removing stable builds from the equation, CM have effectively removed the incorrect notion that the build would be devoid of any bugs. Another goal by having M builds and nightly builds only, is to have the M builds out every two weeks(which is a lofty goal but if any ROM team could do it CM probably could)with the nightlies carrying users from M build to M build.
