ASUS’ Chromebook (which we’re expecting to be officially announced later on this evening) has leaked out a number of times already. We know what it looks like thanks to some pretty decent leaked photos and now, we know exactly what’s going to be under the hood thanks to an enterprising Reddit user. These specs have been doing the rounds for a little while now, but considering that today is the day that Google and Intel are holding a Chrome event, we thought that potential Chromebook buyers would appreciate a little more info before the event – scheduled for later this evening.
So far, it looks very much like the ASUS C200 is going for a compromise between price and performance rather than outright performance, and the specs certainly show as much. The leaked image below was passed to a Reddit user by ASUS and lists out all the specs of the C200 and as with most other Chromebooks, there’s nothing surprising here really. The screen is an 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 panel, and running the show is a 2.16 Ghz N830 Celeron CPU coupled with 2GB of DDR3L RAM, which is specifically designed to generate less heat and consume less power. Speaking of which, the C200 is rated for up to 10 hours of battery life. On the connectivity side of things, WiFi N is fully supported, Bluetooth is included and there are two USB ports – one of the USB 3.0 variety – and an HDMI-out to boot. There’s 16GB of built-in storage here and Intel GMA HD graphics will be controlling what you see.
Where ASUS is hoping the C200 stand out from the already crowded pack of 11.6-inch Chromebooks is in its 10-hour battery life and extra-large trackpad, which ASUS says is more commonly found on 14-inch laptops rather than smaller ones. All of these specs sound nice and all, but don’t let that clock speed fool you, the N830 is a Bay Trail chip from Intel and doesn’t offer the same sort of performance as the Haswell-based chips found in HP’s Chromebook 14 and Acer’s C720 line of Chromebooks.
