Galaxy S5 Mini to be Called Galaxy S5 Dx?

Last year, Samsung changed the way they approach the Galaxy S line and released a number of different variants, including the Galaxy S4 Active, the Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Galaxy S4 Mini. We’ve already seen a successor to the Galaxy S4 Mini launch in the form of the Galaxy K Zoom, but we’re still waiting to see the inevitable launch of the mini version of the Galaxy S5, after all Samsung has been shipping a mini Galaxy S since the Galaxy S III days. While not much is know about the device, it doesn’t take too much imagination to think of what the Galaxy S5 Mini might be.

There’s a good chance that the device might not be called the Galaxy S5 Mini at all though, as a tipster has sent @evleaks a picture of what looks like a smaller Galaxy S5 with the “Dx” moniker attached to its name. While we obviously can’t say for sure how genuine this image is, there’s a chance that Samsung is looking to move away from the “mini” name. The more affordable Galaxy Note 3 launched with the “Neo” suffix rather than “Mini” or “Lite” and the Galaxy K Zoom has distanced itself a little from the Galaxy S5 so, there’s a chance that Samsung is looking to do the same with their more affordable Galaxy device.

In the image, we can see that the heart rate sensor has been cut from the back, and we’re sure the fingerprint sensor has been left out to keep the cost down as well. So far, it’s rumored that the Galaxy S5 Mini (or whatever it;s going to be called) is to launch with a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display, a quad-core CPU of some kind, 1.5 GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel camera, among other things. This would be the third time that Samsung releases a cut-down version of their flagship device, but with a good range of lower-end options already available, does Samsung really need to release one more device? What do you think?
