Google to Begin Serving ads on Nest Thermostats Soon

According to the SEC, Google has informed them that they are planning to begin serving ads on Nest Thermostats. Google bought Nest a few months ago, and is their new in-house hardware partner, basically. Now when Google purchased Nest, we all began to joke around about seeing Google+ tie into Nest as well as seeing ads on our Nest. Well now it appears we may be getting ads after all. I mean, that is Google’s primary source of revenue, over 90% of it. Google intends to serve ads on “refrigerators, car dashboards, thermostats, glasses, and watches, to name just a few possibilities.” According to a letter from Google to the SEC.

Google also stated in the letter that the term “mobile” has extended to smartphones and tablets, and with the rise of wearables, those will also be included in the wearable market. Google has been jumping into the wearable game as well. With Glass and now Android Wear coming out soon, which we should see a few Android Wear devices next month at Google I/O. So far Google hasn’t given any specifics as to how ads would look and work on Nest Thermostats, but it’s still pretty interesting. I’d say, as long as I can still adjust the temperature on my thermostat without the ad getting in the way, I’m all for it. How about the rest of you? I mean Google doesn’t make these products free, or pretty cheap just because. They still have to make money as well. Although they are the most valuable company in the world now, even ahead of Apple. So I guess they could be okay if they lost a few billion, like they did with Motorola.
