So the schedule for this year’s Google I/O has surfaced earlier today. So while everyone’s checking out what kind of sessions we have going on, the folks at Droid Life were busy looking for Google+ sessions at Moscone West. And there appears to be none. Not a single one mentioned in the schedule. The last two years there were a dedicated track for Google+ at Google I/O, and in 2012 there were 8 sessions and 20 in 2013. Which makes this pretty strange, and only continues that conspiracy theory about Google killing Google+. Vic Gundotra, who was head of Google+ recently left the company, and he led a bunch of different sessions at Google I/O last year, pertaining to Google+ of course.
When Vic Gundotra left the company about a month ago, we started hearing all kinds of rumors about how Google is going to kill off Google+ and such. Now we don’t believe that’s true, because of all the money and time they’ve invested into Google+. Not to mention how well integrated it is with just about every Google service, including the most important one, Search. I wouldn’t say that this is confirming the death of Google+, but it’s definitely not looking good for my favorite social network. I believe Google+ and the ghosts will be around for a while, hopefully this was just a mistake by Google and they forgot to add Google+ into the schedule, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Interestingly enough, the only mention of Google+ is for an employee that used to work on the Google+ project and is now working on Android Wear. So there’s that. It’s tough to really tell what’s going on, but we’re hoping we’ll see some more information rather soon. In the meantime, feel free to spread your conspiracy theories in the comments down below.
