Google May Be Looking To Provide WiFi Services/Hardware To Small Businesses In The U.S.

More details have shown up regarding Google and a plan to roll out WiFi services in cities across america. It’s not quite what you’d think though. In the past there have been reports stating that Google could be working on plans to bring city wide WiFi to locations where Google Fiber has already been rolled out. This is still just a rumor but if that were the case those particular WiFi services would be starting with Kansas City and Provo since those are the only two locations with Google Fiber at the moment. Google is also said to be developing an app for both Android and iOS that would allow users to freely and easily log in to the WiFi hotspots at participating Starbucks locations that now use the Google WiFi services.

These new reports from The Information are stating that Google is working to offer WiFi services to small businesses in multiple cities,(this would be different than the WiFi hotspot services it has rolled out at various Starbucks locations, but probably would work much in the same way.)ranging from doctors offices, gyms, restaurants etc. The details also state that Google is only looking into providing WiFi services and hardware to smaller businesses like those listed above, and not larger companies or corporations. Smaller businesses are likely great candidates for such a service as Google might be able to compete and offer a better deal to those who might already have WiFi set up through another provider or may not have WiFi at all.

Google could also be looking to make WiFi services available to customers as early as this summer within the U.S., although this summer is still fairly vague and could mean any time within July or August, spanning a whole two months. For the small businesses it’s reportedly looking to get connected, Google would be offering those businesses commercial quality WiFi hardware with an extremely steep price cut off of the normal cost. It’s unconfirmed at the moment what those original costs are or what Google plans to charge those smaller businesses that it’s targeting for the services.
