When we reviewed the HTC One (M8), we found very little to complain about. We found the camera pretty good, it was a very speedy device, it has good battery life, the list of pros just keeps on going for the M8, but HTC doesn’t seem content to leave the M8 as is. We’ve been hearing rumors of an HTC One Prime for some time now and while we have a pretty good idea of what that entails, we’ve been short on specifics, until now that is. A new report has surfaced with what could be the key specs of the HTC One Prime.
According to Japanese site HTC Soku, the Prime variant of this year’s HTC One is to feature a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 display, as well as a Snapdragon 805 CPU (specifically the APQ8084) and of course, 3GB of RAM. Network performance is getting upgraded as well as device performance with the MDM9x35 modem form Qualcomm which allows for download speeds up to 300 mbps over LTE. So, performance is obviously getting an upgrade, but there’s more to the Prime than just bigger numbers when it comes to specs.
According to the leak, the camera department is getting a boost with the UltraPixel sensor getting a small bump to 5-megapixels and the second camera around back is to become an 18-megapixel shooter used for depth. This part of the rumored spec is a little unclear, but it seems that the UltraPixel will still be the first up when taking photos and the 18-megapixel shooter will be used for the blur effect known as uFocus.
Pegged for a release “around September” the leakster here seems pretty confident that the M8 Prime is definitely making it to market and that the unit he was speaking about is a development one, even going so far to suggest that there might be further improvements before release. It’s an interesting idea and we have no doubt that HTC will be looking to combat both a possible Galaxy S5 Prime release as well as the Galaxy Note 4 later this year.
