Unlike the HTC One line of devices, the Butterfly line that HTC has been shipping for a couple of years now doesn’t feature any metal in its casing. Instead, the Butterfly line is a device designed for the Asian market, and the less premium build materials have helped keep the cost down of these devices. The original Butterfly came out of nowhere to become HTC’s first 1080p device and soon became the Droid DNA on Verizon, since then HTC has released the Butterfly S to bring its features inline with the HTC One (M7) and now, it looks as if HTC is going to release their latest Butterfly device.
According to prominent HTC leakster, @LlabTooFeR, a device dubbed the “B2” will be launching soon, with the specs as the HTC One (M8) and a “glossy body”, which pretty much makes this seem the same sort of Butterfly devices that we’ve seen from HTC for the last couple of years now. As we might have expected, it’s apparently only going to launch in the Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan markets. While the HTC One is still going to be on sale in those markets, the Butterfly will have a more Asian feel to it and be better catered to those target markets. HTC knows how to sell devices in Asia and the Butterfly has proven a successful device for them in the past.
We reviewed the HTC One (M8) and found it to be a great device, with only the camera blotching an overall excellent device. Performance wise, the device was very pleasant to use and we’re sure that HTC will keep the same sort of perfomance, possibly upping the clock speed to 2.5 Ghz as in the Galaxy S5, but we’ll have to wait and see to find out just what this new Butterfly ends up being.
