What do we have here? LG just announced the new LG G3, a world class smartphone at the top of the food chain as far as specs and software are concerned. They used the event to drop a little something extra on us, though. In an introduction video for the G3, they flashed the upcoming G Watch for a few seconds. It was only there for a moment but got a look at it.
The G Watch is going to be powered by Android Wear, which will be announced at Google I/O next month. The display is square, unlike the Moto 360. It’s going to be available in two colors; one with a black band and one with a white band. The watch is water and dust resistant as it needs to be if we’re expected to wear it in all weather and in any situation. The G Watch is also ‘Always On’, meaning that the device is always listening and ready to do what you need it to. Google Now hotwords will be built into Android Wear, and the G Watch will take full advantage of them. The watch will probably cost $199-$249, and will be available sometime this summer.
The LG G3 has a Snapdragon 801 chipset clocked at 2.46 GHz, and has 2GB of RAM. There’s also a variant with 3GB of RAM. There are also choices of either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, with a microSD card slot that supports up to a 128GB microSD card. It also has a 13-megapixel camera with LG’s Laser Auto Focus built-in. This thing will focus in fractions of a second. The camera also has Optical Image Stabilization+, further helping to get fast, clear shots. A major selling point of the G3 is the Quad HD display, with its 2560 x 1440 resolution. The display has an insane 538 ppi and looks completely stunning. The software is optimized to provide great battery life out of removable 3,000 mAh battery, too. Those are just the specs; that’s not even considering all of the software enhancements that LG has packed in.
