Over the weekend, LG announced three new G Pad’s. Those were the 7, 8 and 10 inch models. Although they didn’t give us any specs for these models, we do have some specs on the G Pad 7 thanks to AnTuTu. And they definitely look like a budget tablet, possibly a Nexus 7 competitor. According to AnTuTu it’s running a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 1.3MP front-facing camera, 3.2MP rear-facing camera, along with a display of 1280×800. It also has 8GB of internal storage – no mention of an SD card slot – and it’s running Android 4.4.2.
If these specs are true, we’re looking at a nice 7-inch G Pad, definitely not something that’ll blow your socks off. But if LG can price it at under $200, then I think they have a winner here. The Snapdragon 400 is definitely no slouch, even though it’s in a lot of the lower-end smartphones right now. And obviously we’d love a Snapdragon 800 inside or a 801, but LG can’t really compete with the Nexus – nor can any other manufacturer – and actually make money. The LG G Pad family is a full of great looking devices, although we are still awaiting official release, as well as specs for all three models. Hopefully the 10-inch G Pad is a bit more high-end than the 7-inch version is. I’m really looking forward to the 10-inch G Pad as my new tablet, I’m sure I’m not alone here either.
It’s still kind of hard to justify the G Pad 7 over the Nexus 7, since the Nexus 7 does have better specs, and is a great piece of hardware for just over $200. But if you’re an LG fan and have the G2, or G Flex, or another LG device, you may pick this up anyways, because of the syncing features LG has. Or at least they had them in the G Pad 8.3 released last year.
