LG G3 Gets Torn Down And Graded On Repairability

The LG G3 was just announced a few days ago, but it’s been ripped apart and indexed by uBreakiFix already. If you’re not familiar with them, uBreakiFix takes devices apart and scores them based on how easy they are to repair. With the LG G3 they provided us with a list of all of the components inside, too. The G3 scored really well, garnering an 8 our of a possible 10 points. uBreakiFix even said that with the G3, their “initial impressions are that this is a beautifully engineered phone. The use of several contact-style connectors instead of flexes will certainly reduce repair time and the location of the LCD/digitizer connectors give the G3 a much higher repairability factor.”

Inside the smartphone they found a Broadcom BCM4339 5G WiFi combo chip, Avago ACPM-7700 power amplifier module, Qualcomm WTR1625L RF transceiver, Qualcomm WFR1620 receive-only companion chip, SK Hynix 2GB/3GB LPDDR3 RAM layered on the 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, ANX7812 USB SlimPort Tx IC, and a Texas Instruments BQ24296 battery charge management and system power path management chip. If all of that is gibberish to you, that’s ok. It’s great to get a look at the internals of this device so soon after it was announced. And know you can rest easy, know that if you ever need to break into your G3 for some DIY repairs, it’s relatively simple.

LG announced the G3 today at simultaneous events around the world. The phone has a Snapdragon 801 chipset clocked at 2.46 GHz, and has 2GB of RAM. There’s also a variant with 3GB of RAM. There are also choices of either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, with a microSD card slot that supports up to a 128GB microSD card. It also has a 13-megapixel camera with LG’s Laser Auto Focus built-in. This thing will focus in fractions of a second. The camera also has Optical Image Stabilization+, further helping to get fast, clear shots. A major selling point of the G3 is the Quad HD display, with its 2560 x 1440 resolution. The display has an insane 538 ppi and looks completely stunning. The software is optimized to provide great battery life out of removable 3,000 mAh battery, too.
