You’ve probably heard it said a number of times before, but it really does seem like Japan gets the coolest smartphones. However, this isn’t by accident, and it’s not just because manufacturers like LG can sell a good number of units there. It’s because the Japanese carriers are perhaps even more controlling over their devices than the likes of Verizon here in the US. LG’s ISAI is a clear example of this, it’s obviously what the G3 is going to be when it launches later this month, but it’s clear that Japanese network KDDI au has had a fair bit to do with the device’s design.
Considering this is more than likely staying in Japan, we’re more interested in the hardware of the device, which we’re likely to see LG unveil on stage come May 27th. The display that we’ve heard so much about is a 5.5-inch QHD display at 2560 x 1440 which boasts 538 pixels per inch. Under the hood, the ISAI is powered by a Snapdragon 801 CPU with 3GB of RAM and features a 13.2-megapixel camera capable of shooting 4K video. All of this is powered a 3,000 mAh battery and those wondering about storage will be happy to see 32GB onboard and up to 128GB expansion through the microSD card slot.
The ISAI is more than likely what we’re going to see the G3 become, albeit with a different design of course, and while it’d be nice to see a Snapdragon 805 and 3GB of RAM under the hood, this doesn’t completely rule out the possibility to see the G3 launch with such specs. Bezel haters have something to celebrate here as well, despite featuring a 5.5-inch display, the ISAI is just 76mm wide and there appears to be virtually no bezel at the top of the display, either.
