Giving hungry patrons more of a reason to whip out their smartphones and send snapshots of their eats to everyone who follows them on social media, certain food restaurants in the UK are actually handing out free meals to those who come by and snap a photo of their food and share it to Instagram in exchange. That’s one way to put your name out there. The pop-up food spots are likely to stay in the UK, which might be a drag for those of us over here in the states, but the reasoning behind it is because the whole thing is backed by Birds-Eye, a prepared foods company as part of the marketing campaign they’re currently putting on.
The restaurants, called The Picture House, are set for three UK locations so far with the first one being in London and already open for business. There will also be a second and third location opening up next month, with one in Leeds and the other calling Manchester home. For our own Tom Dawson, this would be a great time to start Instagramming. If you’re in London and visit The Picture House, or if you go to one of the other locations when they open up next month, all you have to do is take a picture of your food and then share it to Instagram, accompanied by the Hashtag #PictureHouseLondon, or whatever the appropriate location would be. There are reportedly more hashtags one could use from a pre-selected list.
Dying to score a free meal and in need of some professional Instagram tips for making your food look as tasty as possible? They have that covered as well, and have apparently brought in an Instagram food expert to help Diners make the best of the pictures they take. It all sounds a little bit weird to us but maybe that’s just the jealousy talking. If you happen to live in the area where these restaurants are located and will be stopping in to take part, let us know how the food is. Even if it isn’t exactly something you’d care for, it’s free so that negates all the negativity that would come from a bad tasting meal right?
