Huawei’s next flagship device has popped up on the AnTuTu benchmarking site. It’s codenamed Mulan and it could be a front runner for high-end smartphones this year. The phone doesn’t appear to be your average flagship smartphone. It’s going to be powered by a 1.3 GHz 8-core Kirin processor with 3 GB of RAM. According to the benchmarks, it also has an ARM Mali-T624 graphics chip, a 4.9-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, and 16GB of internal storage space. It’s running Android 4.4.2 and scored an impressive 36,192 in the benchmarks. That puts the Mulan’s SoC above everything except the Snapdragon 805 and 801, and the NVIDIA Tegra K1.
This new Huawei smartphone has a model number of H60-L02 and looks to be top of the line. We don’t have all of the info, as the camera details have been blocked. But this thing is shaping up to be everything we expected and more. The device should have an aluminum body, adding to its level of quality. Huawei’s execs have said that their next flagship is going to have a set of “unique features” so there’s obviously more on the software side that they are packing into the Mulan.
Huawei sells devices in more than 140 countries worldwide. They have made a push into markets like the U.S. despite saying at one point that they were exiting the U.S. market. The company classifies itself as a collective and not a private corporation. This is part of the reason for their rotating cast of CEOs. They don’t just sell smartphones. Huawei works with roughly 80% of the world’s telecommunication companies to build telecomm networks. They’re also embedded in the enterprise market, offering hardware and software to enterprise companies. As Android fans, we’re most interested in what they’re doing with the Ascend smartphones and this new Mulan phone, but the company has their hands in a lot of pies. Along with other Chinese companies like Xiaomi and ZTE, Huawei is an up and coming player in the global Android ecosystem. We’re excited about what they’re doing.
