Nvidia is no doubt a company that is always leading the way and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with graphics processing. In recent years they have brought that type of work ethic to mobile computing, and it all started with the Tegra 2 CPU. Fast forward to now and the latest Nvidia mobile CPUs on the way are the Tegra k1 32-bit and Tegra K1 64-bit chips, which promise some out of this world amazing graphics that most would drool over. The 64-bit Tegra K1 with dual-core Denver CPU is obviously the more powerful of the two offerings, but we shouldn’t forget about the 32-bit model of this next gen chip from Nvidia. It promises to house some amazing power all its own and while being the less powerful processor, it’s been said that it could still outperform the Xbox 360 and the PS3 while using less power, which is pretty impressive for a mobile CPU.
The PS3 and the Xbox 360 aren’t the focus here though, other competing mobile CPUs are. The most recent benchmark tests combat the Nvidia Tegra K1 32-bit CPU against its two biggest rivals, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 and Nvidia’s own Tegra 4 processor that currently powers the Nvidia Shield and the Tegra Note 7 tablet among other devices. We know how some of you feel about benchmarks, but they do serve a purpose. They give us insight as to how things might perform when we ourselves have the opportunity to use them. You can see all the benchmark stats below for yourselves, but the breakdown is that the Tegra K1 dominates every single benchmark test.
That was probably not a surprise to anyone, assuming the obvious and seeing it with your own eyes are two different things though. The Tegra K1 really shined when it comes to graphics performance in the Basemark X test, but it still surpasses the other two chips by decent margins in every other test as well. Right now there aren’t any devices that we can purchase that are powered by the Tegra K1 CPU, but Xiaomi has just announced that their first tablet(furthermore it will be the first tablet period to hold the Tegra K1 inside) will house this processor which should be interesting to say the least, given that Xiaomi has a record of producing devices with better and better specs at a low cost.
