About a week ago we reported that Portal would be making its way to the Play Store for the Nvidia Shield on May 12th, and that it would be costing gamers $9.99 if they wanted to throw down on some good old fashioned first person puzzle action from back in the day. One day later we figured out that not only was Valve Software and Nvidia partnering to bring gamers the opportunity to relive the action of the original Portal, but that they would be porting Half Life 2 over to Android for the Nvidia Shield as well. They sent out green crowbars with a Half Life 2 quote written on them which is how we discovered that the game was coming in the first place.
For those that were waiting to get their hands on the Shield version of Portal from Valve, now is your chance, but in quite a surprising move they also released Half Life 2 for Shield owners today as well. Since they only hinted at the game coming to the Shield and didn’t mention any sort of time frame for a release or a price, we could only assume that they were simply working on the port to potentially get a release this summer. Little did we know that they had the game ready to go and were probably planning on launching it the same day as Portal. Both games are available for $9.99 each and can be found in the Play Store web version, or on your device if your cruising the Play Store on your Nvidia Shield unit. You can also find both games in the Tegra Zone app which does have support for non-tegra devices, but once you click the Play Store button to take you to the game you’re greeted with the unfortunate message that you have an unsupported device. This shouldn’t surprise anyone as we knew these two games would be Shield compatible games only for now.
While the rest of using other Android devices wait to hopefully get our chance to play these two great games, we can at least check out some of the screen shots of the game and wonder how awesome it might be to play these games on the go. The Nvidia Shield has never looked so good. You can grab Portal and Half Life 2 from this link if you needed something to perk up your Monday. With Valve’s Source engine now working and having Android compatibility, we wonder if Portal 2 or Team Fortress 2 might be the next game to make their way to mobile.
