Rumor: Alleged HTC One Prime No Longer in Development

Just as the day featuring TK Tech News’ leak and rumor of a HTC-made wrist-piece, possibly to be paired with the rumored HTC M8 Prime, which could have been released alongside it, HTC has thrown us a bone in the way of a very interesting leak from the infamous @evleaks. Hours after the HTC wearable was leaked out from TK Tech News, @evleaks tweeted out the following: “If you were salty at having purchased an HTC One (M8) when news of the M8 Prime hit, prepare to feel vindicated: development on Prime has been suspended indefinitely.”

This fits rather perfectly in a sort of sadly humorous sense.  Many people that bought the HTC One M8 when it came out were likely very frustrated that a new and upgraded version would be available within the next twelve months or so.  But, both luckily and sadly, the rumored M8 Prime has been knocked out, possibly to be reawakened later for further development. The part to pay attention to is the name of the device @evleaks uses.  Directly calling it the ‘Prime’, gives away that the Prime name was actually in use, and will most likely remain attached to it until it either is killed as a project entirely or brought to market eventually.

This both saddens us and makes those of us that did in fact buy an M8 only to find that we’d be one-upped soon enough. Something that people have been considering for a while about the M8 Prime: it may be a new iteration, with respectable specifications and features, of the HTC One Max, which we last saw follow in the successful stride of the One M7 from last year.  Whether it was a ‘super One’ or in fact a One Max with powered-up specs, it is currently out of play by HTC. What is the next step from here? Well, we don’t know. @evleaks rarely has misinformation, and this would certainly be something that is either true or a falsity put out to take attention off of the Prime entirely until it pops upon our radar later this year.  But until the next HTC One variant comes into view, stay tuned for the latest.
