So this is a new rumor that we have yet to hear about one of the latest wearables that is thought to be nearing release for this summer. While we have heard statements that Samsung would be looking to release a Gear smartwatch that wouldn’t have the need to rely on a Bluetooth connection for data, or any other internet related tasks because of an embedded SIM card, a new report out of South Korea, LG’s home market, claims that the LG G Watch will come with a non removable SIM card inside that will provide the same type of functionality yet is completely independent from a smartphone connection. While this would seem like a great idea or rather a great second option for those who will be looking to purchase the G Watch in the future, how would this affect battery life in the current state for smartwatches and would it be limited to just the market of South Korea or would we be looking at a potential international release?
At the current time there is no evidence to support this claim, so take it with a grain of salt. It’s not impossible to think that LG could be looking into developing and launching a SIM enabled variant of the G Watch though. If the rumor pans out to be true which hopefully we’ll find out sometime in the near future, then we’d think that it would be more logical for LG to release both a G Watch that has no SIM and relies on your smartphones data via Bluetooth, and one model with a SIM for those who would rather not have the need to carry their phone to complete the same tasks.
There is little to no detail about this particular SIM enabled G Watch as of now so if it ended up existing we would imagine that it could be virtually the same save for the SIM card and perhaps a slightly bigger battery to support the heavier drain from a cell network connection. A SIM capable LG G Watch would seem like a more costly device as well due to the extra components, and that’s not factoring in what it might cost to keep data flowing to the SIM inside the watch. What do you think? Could there be any truth to this and if so, would you buy an LG G Watch that had a SIM card for data connection?
