Is the Samsung Galaxy Note series of devices too small for you? If the answer to that is yes then the Samsung Galaxy Mega series is potentially more to your liking. The Samsung Galaxy Mega, while ridiculously huge for a handset, seems to have done well enough for Samsung to warrant a successor. That would be the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2, and that’s what this image leak appears to be of. Samsung had a device that hit the FCC just yesterday that at the time, was an unknown 7-inch device. To anybody’s guess it could have very well been a tablet. As it turns out though it seems to have been the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2.
Lets put this into perspective shall we? The original Samsung Galaxy Mega had a 6.3-inch display. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 looks to have a 7-inch display. The Nexus 7 also has a 7-inch display, and is one of many among a myriad of 7-inch sized tablets. The keyword there is tablets. Personal feelings aside that 6.3-inches let alone 7-inches is way too big for the size of a smartphone screen, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 is massive, or dare I say, MEGA. That is the idea though isn’t it? A mega sized phone for I guess.. people with mega sized hands. Something deep inside me says that Shaq would be the perfect spokesperson for Samsung here.
Now that I have the jokes out of my system let’s talk some specs. For right now we don’t know concrete details. However, the expectations and rumors for hardware is potentially a quad-core processor from Qualcomm but could also be a quad-core chip from another OEM entirely. When it comes to RAM the rumor is that the Mega 2 will come packed with 1.5GB and as for storage, we could be looking at a mere 8GB, but that would most likely be expandable with a microSD card. The camera is rumored to be an 8MP on the rear, and a 2MP on the front, and the display is rumored to be a 720P resolution. If these specs turn out to be true, what we’re looking at is a Mega sized phone with not so mega sized specs. Since the details are non existent on actual specs, details are also non existent on launch and pricing information, although perhaps Samsung will have something to say on the matter at their event that comes up in the next couple of weeks.
