There was a lot of disappointment surrounding the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S5 after it was revealed that the display was the old Full HD 1080p rather than the QHD 1440p. Samsung said there was no manufacturer setup to mass produce the QHD display in the quantities they felt would be needed for a device such as the Galaxy S5. Immediately, our thoughts turned to a ‘Premium’ or ‘Prime’ version that make have all of the ‘junk’ we really wanted on the original Galaxy S5. Please, let us not forget that somewhere down the road we would also be expecting a Galaxy S5 mini version as well. It looks like a source over at GSMArena, leaked the goods from a reliable tipster.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime G906 does indeed seem to be coming sometime soon with a 5.2-inch QHD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The leak also shows us that the Codename for the device is KQ (Lentis). We still do not know if the name ‘Prime’ will be its final designation, but we now know that it will indeed have the QHD display that we were hoping for…and that it will be slightly larger in size to the original 5.1-inch display on Galaxy S5.
This leak also shows us that the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini G800, Codename K Mini (Atlantic) is also coming with a 4.5-inch HD display with 1280 x 720p resolution. Their source that had previously told them about the screen size also hinted that there may by a Snapdragon 800 in the S5 Mini as well, but that still cannot be confirmed at this time.
The last device on the list here, the Samsung Galaxy G750 with a Codename of K Mega (Vasta), was originally been thought to be a Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo, or downgraded Galaxy S5 – much like the Galaxy Note 3 Neo – but we now see that it is actually a second generation Mega device. This new Galaxy Mega is sporting a 6-inch HD display with the 1280 x 720p resolution.
We will keep you posted on any developments as we hear them, but it is nice to know that there will be a Galaxy S5 ‘Prime’ of some sort coming soon with a QHD display. It will be interesting to see the impact that the QHD versus the Full HD display will have on the battery life. Please hook up with us on our Google+ Page to discuss the Galaxy S5 Prime and Mini…as always, we would love to hear from you.
