Over the past few years, Google has been working their way into the education sector and while Chromebooks have become a big thing in the education market – thanks to the help of Samsung, Lenovo and Dell – now Android is working its way into classrooms. Not too long ago, Google announced Google Play for Education, a more classroom-focused effort to get Android into the hands of keen learners and teachers all over the US. Samsung has been a big partner of Google’s when it comes to education with their super-affordable Samsung Chromebook and now, they’re offering a Galaxy Tab 4 for the classroom.
The rugged tablet is a Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 wrapped up to take the beating it might get in the classroom and is running Google Play for Education, allowing it to be remotely controlled by teachers. It’s aimed at the K-12 sector of the market and while the 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 display isn’t the best, it should do just fine for educational movies and even some textbooks. Samsung will be selling this through their distributors for $369.99 and it’s available for schools planning for the 2014 – 2015 academic year. Google Play for Education isn’t going to be the only source available here though, as Samsung have stated that the device will be upgraded to support Samsung School from the South Korean giant themselves.
It’s easy for us to see that tablets and laptops are great for the classroom, but anybody actually dealing with getting such hardware into schools will tell you how difficult it can be. Google has been making this quite a bit easier for some time now and by opening up Google Play to the education sector, even more interactive educational content will be making its way to classrooms all over the country.
