So far, Samsung has released a fair few tablets already this year, with the Galaxy Tab Pro line kicking things off and the Galaxy Tab 4 line giving options available to all price points. You’d think that’d be enough for Samsung, but it appears that they’re getting ready to launch another pair of tablets dubbed the Galaxy Tab S, in 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch variants. The unique selling point for these new tablets is going to be the inclusion of a Super AMOLED display with a high-resolution of 2560 x 1600, which would make these the first tablets since the very expensive Galaxy Tab 7.7 launched with an AMOLED display back in the Honeycomb days.
According to SamMobile, the devices are going to come in 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch versions with LTE options available for both of them. With model numbers SM-T700 for the 8.4-inch WiFi version and SM-T800 for the 10.5-inch WiFi model it looks like these are devices that are far along in their development and could be launching soon. The devices have even been benchmarked through AnTuTu and as such we know that the devices will be powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 5420 octa-core CPU clocked at 1.9 Ghz with 3GB of RAM to back it up. 8-megapixel rear-facing cameras will be on the devices as well as Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Samsung’s own adjustments to Android on top. Instead of using Snapdragon chips in the LTE variants, it’s said that Samsung will be using Intel LTE modems and thus be able to use their own chips.
Aside from the big deal that is the Super AMOLED displays, these tablets will apparently be launching with a fingerprint sensor, just like the Galaxy S5 did. We’re not sure how useful this is going to be for a tablet, but I’ve been using a Galaxy S5 for a while now and the fingerprint sensor is a nice addition when it comes to securing your device. Said to be launching in Shimmer White and Titanium Grey, Samsung is apparently working on new flip covers for these tablets that will connect to the device and offer various functions.
It’s said that the design of the new tablets will resemble the Galaxy Tab 4 lineup but be cleaner and slimmer with less visible bezel. Not using the faux-leather design from the Tab Pro line of tablets would be a good way of helping the Galaxy Tab S stand on its own, but with 7 tablets on the market already, consumers will have a lot of choice when buying a Samsung tablet later this year. The insider scored 35,268 in AnTuTu and passed info to SamMobile using CPU-Z so, it seems these tablets are very much real and we should start to see them a little later on this year.
