Samsung has already released one more variant of the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy K Zoom which features the same sort of language, save for the massive camera lens on the back, and the Galaxy S5 Active is shaping up to be their next variant of the device to be released. We’ve heard a number of rumors about the device, potentially seen it in benchmarks and now, the device has been spotted in Samsung support pages online all over the web. Or at least, a placeholder for the device has been. We’ve still yet to see the device in the flesh however, which begs the question as to just what Samsung is going to do to make this year’s model more “Active” than the already waterproof Galaxy S5.
Support pages for a Samsung device with the model number of SM-G850F, which is believed to be the Galaxy S5 Active have appeared in Samsung support pages all over the world, mostly in Europe. Placeholder pages can be found on Samsung’s website for Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland to name but a few. This could mean that the device is steadily working its way to store shelves throughout Europe and that an announcement isn’t too far away. There’s a chance that this could be a completely different device altogether, as the AT&T version of the device is said to carry a model number of SM-G870A, which is a little different.
At this point though it seems all but set that Samsung is to release another variant of the Galaxy S5, just what’s going to make this year’s “Active” is still a bit of a mystery to us however, as the Galaxy S5 proper is already dust and waterproof. Are we in store for a more rugged Galaxy S? Last year’s Active was a little bulkier and harder-wearing, but it was hardly a rugged device in the true sense of the word. No matter what the device becomes though, we just hope Samsung has the sense to release it here in the US on other carriers than just AT&T this time around.
