Anyone with a passing interest in smartphones or mobile technology in general will have realized long ago that Japan get cooler-looking smartphones than we do, it’s just a fact. Their smartphones are often more colorful and some of them are even modeled after your favorite anime series. Of course, some of the best-selling devices in Japan are also the best-selling devices elsewhere in the world. Samsung’s Galaxy S5 has already proved a popular device in the West, and it’s now launching in Japan on NTT DoCoMo. As you might have expected, this means that Samsung’s latest will be available in an overly bright and somewhat obnoxious color, this time around it’s hot pink!
The SC-04F, which is NTT DoCoMo’s model number for the Galaxy S5, will be offered in the pink color as well as the white and black versions. As you might expect, the device is pretty much identical on the inside to the Galaxy S5 that we recently reviewed however, there have been a few alterations made to the exterior of the device, like swapping the Galaxy S and Samsung logos around a bit, but other than that this is the Galaxy S5 many of you already know and love. That makes for a device with a Snapdragon 801, 2GB of RAM and that 5.1-inch Super AMOLED Full HD display. On the software side of things, Samsung’s TouchWiz will be here as you might expect, but NTT DoCoMo often put their own stamp on things, so there will be a few differences here, and of course it needs to be modified somewhat to better work with Japanese.
Features that often make us Western smartphone buyers jealous are alive and well here too, with this version of the Galaxy S5 supporting One-Seg and NOTTV for watching TV on the go and Voice over LTE is available on this, too. Samsung hasn’t exactly been struggling in Japan but homegrown giant Sony has been outselling the South Korean stalwart for quite a while now, so it’s good to see the Galaxy S5 launch not too long after it did so everywhere else.
