It seems there’s a new kid on the block when it comes to thin smartphones, and this one is ready to take the crown from whoever holds it this week. Chinese manufacturer Vivo have once again managed to put together a scarily thin device, this time coming in at 6.75mm thick, which is frankly a little ridiculous. With a device this thin, trade offs have had to be made, but the Vivo X3L is still a competent device, especially for the price it commands and gits in nicely with other Vivo devices. At 6.75mm thin though, just what do you get?
Well, you get a 5-inch 1280 x 720 display, a quad-core Snapdragon CPU (which hasn’t been named but we’re thinking this is a Snapdragon 400 at work), 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel f/2.0 camera and a microSD card slot for those looking for as much space in their devices as possible. The X3L is an upgrade over the X3, which is why the design is going to be familiar to a lot of you, but the price tag is still fairly low coming in at 2,500 Yuan (roughly $400) and it’ll be available very soon through TMall and more.
Obviously, a premium is going to be paid for a super-thin phone but, with that premium comes trade offs. After all, the device isn’t going to be packing a fantastically sized battery under the hood and we’re expecting Android 4.2.2 or so to launch with this, rather than KitKat. However, there’s one thing that the Vivo X3L has going in its favor and that’s 4G support. Supporting TD-LTE across 1900MHz/2300MHz/2600MHz bands, this could be the device Chinese buyers have been looking for, just as long as they don’t buying extra for a device, just because of its svelte frame.
