Sony Xperia Z2 Launches in India for INR 49,900, Offers Free SmartBand and More

One of the hottest smartphones on the market as of now is Sony’s latest offering – the Sony Xperia Z2. A device which has managed to turn heads, not only on the basis of its design principles, but also on the laundry list of high-end specifications it offers. Official confirmation from Sony states that the device will retail through normal retail channels and stores in India, which is in stark contrast to their strategy for the US, where the Xperia Z2 can only be purchased from Sony’s online store, which has been the cause for much outrage from US fans.

The Xperia Z2 is Sony’s in-your-face answer to the Samsung Galaxy S5s and the HTC One (M8)s of rivals. In terms of the specifications, the device boasts of a 5.2 inch full-HD Triluminos® display with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, which is further enhanced by Sony’s X-Reality mobile picture engine – the same technology that is powering the current generation Sony Bravia LED TVs. The device is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset which has 4 Krait 400 cores clocked at 2.3 GHz, while the graphics are rendered by the Adreno 330 GPU which has a 10% better performance than the predecessor Adreno 320 GPU. This beast of a device offers up 3 GB of RAM with 16 GB of internal storage which is thankfully expandable to a whopping 128 GB on account of the inbuilt MicroSD slot. The device boasts of all possible connectivity options including quad-band 2G, 3G and 4G LTE in multiple bands, along with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 and near field communications (NFC). The device also boasts of dust and water-proof capabilities.

The selling point though would be the fantastic camera optics which offers a 20.7 mega pixel (MP) primary camera which is also capable of 4K video recording at 120 fps with video stabilization, while the occasional video call and selfie is catered to by a 2.2 MP camera which shoots full-HD 1080p videos at 30 fps. The Xperia Z2 is expected to be available at retail outlets from the 15th of May onwards and is expected to be priced at INR 49,900 ($833) which is higher than the price the Samsung Galaxy S5 or the HTC One (M8) command in India. However, Sony has sweetened the deal by giving their fitness tracking Smartband for free, along with 50 GB Box online storage for live, Evernote premium, 6 free movies from a pre-selected catalog and other freebies.
