Yesterday we reported that the Galaxy Note 3 on Verizon was getting it’s KitKat update, but you’d have to update it manually throw Kies. Well now it’s available for OTA for anyone on Verizon with the Galaxy Note 3. This means you can head into your Settings > About Phone > Check for Updates, and grab Android 4.4.2 for your Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The update brings all kinds of new features like immersive mode, cloud printing and more. Along with some bug fixes and enhancements for Samsung’s custom overlay, Touchwiz. So far there’s no changelog on the update, but I’m sure Verizon updated their apps and maybe threw in something new. The update should speed up the Galaxy Note 3 a bit more and polish the UI a bit as well.
It’s worth mentioning here that you are not getting the version of Touchwiz that the Galaxy S5 has. It’s the same version of Touchwiz that the Galaxy Note 3 launched on. Which is what Samsung has been doing lately with their devices, updating them, but keeping the same version of Touchwiz on it. Which might be why the Galaxy S3 isn’t getting KitKat officially. I understand why Samsung does this, and that’s because they don’t want to make a huge change on someone’s smartphone and have people going crazy. As we saw with Windows 8, people don’t like change, only us tech geeks do. So unfortunately we’re stuck with the same version of Touchwiz on the Galaxy Note 3. However, Touchwiz on the Galaxy Note 4 should be rather interesting. And that’s something I’ll be holding out to check out.
