We’ve been seeing a few leaks lately for XLTE which is supposedly launching soon on Verizon. It’s not really a new technology, they are just branding the extra bandwidth and capacity as XLTE. For who knows what reason. But basically with XLTE you should see faster peak speeds, and it’ll work with just about all the newer Verizon devices. Additionally we aren’t getting an extra logo from Verizon, and no “XLTE” indicator. Which is great.
Right now XLTE is all but confirmed, but a Verizon commercial just popped up online. And it basically confirms XLTE again for us. Not that we had any doubt that it wasn’t real. Especially the way that Verizon likes to brand stuff. It was originally posted on Vimeo by the art director for McGarryBowen, which is a big marketing firm that does all kinds of stuff for Verizon and their marketing department. It may get pulled down, which is why we’ve found a mirror, for those looking to see the commercial afterwards.
Verizon XLTE should definitely help out in those congested areas where there are a lot of people on their towers. Which is an issue they’ve been dealing with for nearly a year now. So the extra bandwidth and capacity should definitely help Verizon customers, especially in congested areas like New York City. Verizon says cities across the country will have XLTE, but we have no idea what cities those are. It should really be all of them, but it’s likely just their biggest cities. Like Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, etc. We’ll have to wait for the official announcement from Verizon to see exactly what cities it’s available in. This is probably the next step before we get to VoLTE which should be rolling out later this year on Verizon, while AT&T is rolling it out later this month.
