We cannot always do something this good when we buy a new smartphone, but with Virgin Mobile’s participation in the RE*Generation program, that is exactly what happens when you join the ‘movement.’ The RE*Generation movement started in 2008 and it helps at-risk and homeless youth break the cycle of homelessness that many youth finds themselves in, by getting them off the street and giving them some proper training so they can join the workforce and provide for themselves. Without adequate income and a job, it is very tough to break that cycle – the youth needs a way to afford decent, stable accommodations, as well as a means to pay for life’s necessities.
In Canada, it is estimated that there are 225,000 youth without a job and that are not in school – that 35,000 are homeless and living in emergency shelters, with many more are either staying with friends or simply living outside on the street – up to 6,000 are on the streets on any given night.
This year Virgin Mobile teamed up with Samsung and picked their Galaxy S5 smartphone as their RE*Generation device this year. If you get a Galaxy S5 on Virgin Mobile, they will donate $15 towards the RE*Generation movement and you too will be helping youth emerge from homelessness. If you agree to add only a $1 each month to your mobile phone bill, members can donate each month to the Virgin Mobile RE*Generation program and further help Canada’s homeless youth – they call it ‘Change for a Dollar.’ Through their RE*Generation program they have raised over $2.5 million for programs and opportunities for the homeless youth and they need to keep this growing. They even have a RE*Generation Concert Series where popular artists will hold benefit concerts and donate the money to the cause.
Hopefully you never had to go through a part of your life when you were homeless, but it is a very real and scary subject and we are glad the Virgin Mobile and Samsung teamed up to participate this year – you get a very nice Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone with a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED Full HD display, a Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, coupled with 2GB of RAM, 16MP camera, a 2800mAh battery, and a device that is both water and dust resistant – and get to help the homeless youth at the same time.
