According to sources close to Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone maker is apparently on track to be releasing their very first tablet soon, which will likely end up entering the market to compete with the likes of Samsung and Apple, who largely make up for the biggest portions of the tablet market. The rumored “Mipad” is said to be potentially coming with a display size of 7.9-inches which would put directly into the 8-inch tablet market to take on the iPad mini, Samsung’s 8-inch tablets like the Galaxy Tab 8 and the rumored upcoming Nexus 8 if it indeed does come with an 8-inch display. According to the sources who spoke to reuters about the matter, Xiaomi has also already started ordering parts for the tablets to further manufacturing.
We could potentially learn more about Xiaomi’s first tablet device at the event that they have scheduled for May 15th, but Xiaomi hasn’t mentioned anything about it thus far so we’ll just have to wait and see. There are rumored specs and prices being thrown around for the device, like a snapdragon 400 quad-core processor and a potential $160 price tag, it’s also rumored to potentially come with a retina display, which makes the price if true all that much more of an amazing offering. We wouldn’t be surprised if Xiaomi ended up packing their first tablet with some good stuff, as they have been on the rise and have been known for offering decent devices with powerful hardware and low end prices. The most recently released RedMi Note is a good example of this with its MediaTek octa-core CPU and 2GB of RAM.
In addition to the possibility of Xiaomi’s very first tablet for the market, they’re said to be announcing a relaunch of the Mi3S smartphone at the May 15th event as well, which would most likely mean they’ll be relaunching it with updated and better specs, but that also potentially means a little bit of a higher price tag. Given Xiaomi’s normal pricing however even an increase probably wouldn’t break the bank for most consumers. Considering some of Xiaomi’s recent device offerings, would you buy a Xiaomi tablet if made available in your local area or if you could purchase it online?
