American Fashion Designer Diane Von Furstenberg Collaborates With Google Glass

Google announced today that they will collaborate with American Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg to bring us – DVF|Made for Glass Collection – designer eyewear.  This new DVF collection can be purchased starting June 23 exclusively on +Net-A-Porter and google.com/glass.  This new collection will complement the Titanium Collection unveiled this past January – giving the Glass Explorers more choices to choose from.

The new DVF Collection will include five newly styled frames and eight new shades…building up the choices that Glass buyers want and need to help show off their individuality.  It is no different when you go to pick out a pair of new glasses now – we are always looking for the right style, shape and color to make us look better and to let people know a little something about ourselves. This is not the first time that Diane von Furstenberg worked with Glass – she actually used the technology on the fashion runway in her last New York show. Diane believes that “technology is your best accessory.”

Google is showing signs of opening up Glass as a mainstream device – not the mystery gadget that only a select group of Glass Explorers is allowed to purchase for $1,500 that will invade our privacy. Last month Google open up the “membership” to anybody that wanted to pay the $1,500 and they brought in Ivy Ross to head up the Glass Project.  She wrote last month:

“Can technology be something that frees us up and keeps us in the moment, rather than taking us out of it?  Can it help us look up and out at the world around us, and the people who share it with us?  I have spent my career–Calvin Klein, Swatch, Coach, Mattel, Bausch & Lomb, Gap and, most recently, Art.com–at the intersection of design and marketing, trying to answer questions like this in different ways, for different products.  But Glass is especially cool, as no one has really tried to answer them with a product like this before.” She’s correct in saying that nobody has ever tried marketing a product like this before, but having Glass made by designers will draw more people into the flock of believers. Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know what you think about Glass – are you looking forward to getting a pair…as always, we would love to hear from you.
