A little more than a month ago we saw the first image leaks of the 14-inch SlateBook from HP that came in various colors with a touch screen and would reportedly be running Android for the operating system. Some time passed and then we finally saw some more details about the new laptop from HP come through just a few days ago on May 27th, with information regarding the hardware and specifications of the device. It was said to be running a quad-core processor, but not just any quad-core processor, the Tegra 4 CPU from Nvidia. As of today HP has announced this new laptop running Android is official, and that it will be coming in July with a starting price tag of $399.
The 14-inch notebook will indeed be coming with a 1080p touch screen and it will in fact be powered by an Nvidia Tegra 4 CPU that will be able to deliver fast and powerful performance and graphics. It’s said to have up to 9 hours of battery life on a charge which remains to be seen as of yet but if it holds true, it should at least allow for most of the days use without having the need to bring your charger with you. The official launch date is July 20th according to HP so even though July is only a month away, we’ll still have to wait until the end of the month to get our hands on it.
The SlateBook will come packed with 2GB of RAM but will essentially come in three different storage size models. The $399 price is for the 16GB drive model, and the next price up is for the 64GB drive model with the price point of $429. The third storage model will come with 32GB of storage but may end up being the most expensive if it comes with the capability to connect up to 3G or 4G data, where as the other two models only support WiFi for a connection to the web. All three models will have microSD card slots for expandable storage if needed. You’ll also find a built in webcam, the standard connections with two USB ports(one USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0), and HDMI port, and the ability to link up with larger displays or TVs via miracast technology. The only real downside here is that the SlateBook runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean instead of Kit Kat, but other than that the makeup isn’t too bad.
