One of the most anticipated flagships of the year is nearly upon us. Although I feel like I say that about every flagship that comes out. The LG G3 is official, and officially in my hands. I have the Korean version here. Yes the one with the big antenna, I’m going to have some fun with that. I’ve had it for a little over 24 hours now and figured it’s time to give you guys some first thoughts, and get everyone ready for the onslaught of LG G3 content we’ll be posting over the coming weeks. It’s important to remember that this is the Korean version, so it doesn’t really play nicely with the US carrier networks. Although I do have my T-Mobile SIM card in here.
As far as the build goes, it’s much better than the G2 was. For as much as I loved the G2, there were a few things I hated. Like the glossy plastic on the back. The LG G3 is metallic and while it is still plastic, it looks and feels amazingly. The display is absolutely amazing, and yes you can tell the difference between the G2 and G3’s displays. As far as size goes, the G3 is just barely bigger than the G2. Which you can check out this size test video that I did yesterday, in comparing it to the G2 and a few other devices I have on hand for reviews.
The software has improved a ton. Just about every complaint I had on the LG G2 software has been fixed. At least that I’ve found so far, I’m sure I’ll find some issues before I write the review. The fact that you can now hide the volume and brightness sliders in the notification panel is a big deal for me, as it declutters the notification panel a bit. Now onto the camera, I haven’t had much time to play with it yet, but so far it’s rock solid. I posted some shots on Google+ that I took with the device yesterday and they are pretty good in my opinion. The camera software has basically gone minimal. The G2 camera app was basically a rip off of the Samsung Galaxy S4 app, but now it’s much better, cleaner and more minimal, which I like. More to come on the camera though, including a shootout with the G2.
