Google Looking for your help to Improve Google Voice Transcriptions

When I was using Google Voice for my phone number (I had to port out of Google Voice since it was giving me all kinds of issues), one the of the best things about using Google Voice was the transcriptions from Voicemails. It was never spot on, well every once in a while it got lucky. But sometimes the transcription of the message was just too funny to pass up. Well Google is looking to fix that now. So I guess this means Google Voice isn’t dead? Google is going to be needing your help for improving Google Voice Transcriptions, which is where they get most of their help from anyways.

If you use Google Voice’s web interface at all, that’s voice.google.com, you should see a new pop-up pretty soon asking you if you want to take part  in improving voice transcriptions. Here’s the full text of the message:

Help us improve voicemail transcription!

Google would like your help in making voicemail transcriptions better. With your permission, our automated systems will remove your account information from your voicemail messages and analyze them to improve our language models. This use of your voicemails to improve our language models is fully automated, and no humans read or listen to your voicemail messages in order to do this. You can opt out at any time, and we’ll stop using your messages in the future.”

So those using Google Voice can opt in or not. I’d opt in as this one of Google’s weaker points with their services, and something they’ve needed to work on after all. One of the bigger things coming out of Google I/O last week was the fact there was nothing on Google Voice. We heard last year that it was being rolled into Hangouts, but so far nothing on the Android front, even though iOS has it. But at least this means Google Voice isn’t dead, which is a good thing for a lot of people.
