As we patiently wait for the arrival of the HTC One mini 2 – not sure that anybody is really too excited by its coming – our source was perusing through the FCC’s database and came across a device listed as the HTC 0P8B100. It turns out it could be the HTC One mini 2 variant rumored to be going to Verizon as the HTC One Remix. It is showing support for Verizon’s bands 4 and 13, not to mention offering CDMA BC0 and BC1 support. An internet search – you have to love the information out there – of the SKU: HTC6515LVW, indicts it is indeed a variant of the HTC One mini 2.
My problem with ‘mini’ versions is that they are ‘mini’ not only in size (which is okay), but that they also are ‘mini’ on the specifications. Why don’t they simply shrink the body of the device…and I realize the battery would have to shrink as well…but leave the same processor, memory, display resolution, etc. – is that asking too much? For instance, the HTC One mini 2 has a 4.5-inch display, but only the 720p resolution. The processor drops back to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core with only 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage – but at least HTC is including a microSD slot to add up to an additional 128GB or storage. The device measures 137.43 x 65.04 x 10.6mm and weighs in at 137g. As for frequencies it supports GSM bands 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz, WCDMA bands for 3G 50, 900, 1900 and 2100 MHz and will support HSPA+ up to 42Mbps down and 4G LTE is supported across bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20 and 28.
One area that is really a changeup, and maybe for the better, is that HTC chose to use a more conventional 13MP main camera, ditching the UltraPixel technology and they added a nice 5MP front-facing-camera for video chatting and selfies.
Verizon has yet to verify that they will even be carrying the HTC One mini 2 on their network…but neither have they denied it, and until they do, we would like to think that this is indeed their version of the One mini 2 or Remix.
